Me and kiddo love these. The laces are just decorative and there is actually a big Velcro flap where the laces are that you undo to put on. Super easy for my kid to put on and take off by herself. Although not technically waterproof, they kept her feet dry while jumping in puddles and hiking in mud.

Shoe is great, my toddler loves it. Only problem, we have had the shoes 10 days and they are already broken (see photo). I am not sure if this is common for this type of shoe? Zappos will be providing an exchange. Really disappointed having to do all of the extra work to get a new pair, for expensive childrens shoes that should last at least till he outgrows them!

My little guy wears AFOs and SMOs and these slip over each easily. The velcro and wide opening are great.

These boots seem to run a half size small. The Velcro closer makes easy on and off. These boots are cute, cute, cute!

My toddler loves them and can get himself in and out of these boots. They work for playing all day at daycare or holiday pictures.

Just adding a review to correct one very important detail – these are VELCRO closure, not laces, which makes things a lot easier. The laces are for show only and come sewn into a bow. I almost cut the sewn part when I realized there’s a Velcro closure on the side and the whole thing opens up, making it super easy to get these on.

I love these boots for my toddler!! They are stylish AND functional enough that they serve multiple purposes (he wears them as hiking boots, play shoes, and even nicer dress shoes in winter). I found the size chart accurate and they are very easy to put on. I only buy shoes with a wide toe box and flexible/zero drop sole, and these are pretty good in all those categories for the price. My only complaint is that they keep selling out, and I want them to keep making the Bare Steps line in more colors and styles!

we accidentally ordered a size up, so ordered the next size down. we loved them so much, we just kept both. haha. our toddler is verrry active, and he also hiked in colorado with these. they’re so versatile that we also had him wear them to church. they are such great quality that now our younger (also verrry active) son wears the smaller pair. i agree with another review that they are not exactly “bare” for barefoot shoe lovers, but they do have a wide toe and were one of the easiest shoes for our toddlers to first walk in.
a lot of the reviews on these are actually for two other boots merrell used to sell, so…kind of misleading on the rating/review-front.

I love these for my toddler. They’re easy to get on and off, and super cute. They have a wide to box, and allow him to move. I could tell he had to break them in a bit, but once he did they were awesome.

My toddler wears this all the time. It is the perfect shoe. Easy to put on, weather protection, good traction and the shape fits his foot in a natural way.
These are excellent. Replacing with bigger size when these become too small!

I have gotten a pair of these for my toddler three years in a row now. I love the style and versatility. I once had a lace eyelet pop off and when I contacted Merrell they sent me a replacement pair of shoes.

Perfect shoe for my 1.5 to 2 year old all fall/spring/winter. He had a separate pair of winter boots for very cold days, and ran around happily in these the rest of the time. Will buy again this year.

These boots are adorable and functional. They seem to have great traction for hiking. My toddler is comfortable in them and I got some wool socks to help him stay warmer since these aren’t insulated. However, they aren’t great for rain. Definitely not puddle-proof. We have different rain boots for that. Great for Eastern Oregon, not so great for Western Oregon.

My 2yo loves his boots. He has many shoes and these are always the only pair he loves. I bought a 2nd pair because he outgrew his first pair. They are tough and well built..he has splashed through many puddles and ran outside with them and they have withstood all of that.
Also, he usually kicks his shoes off when he gets home, these are the only pair that he doesn’t want to take off
