The size is great. The foot bed is terrible, extremely uncomfortable. I added a cushioned foot bed to provide comfort.

I’ve been looking and looking for a lightweight and waterproof shoe to wear on an African safari during a light rainy season, and these are the lightest and most comfortable ones yet. A little loose but overall, comfortable enough to keep.
Sara –
Run a little large I think. I bought a 6.5 which is what I usually wear but they feel big.

I purchased these hiking shoes for an upcoming trip. Definitely feel true to size and I was surprised at how much lighter they feel (I was presuming they’d be a bit bulky/clunky). There is room in the toe box, but not in a way that makes them feel too large. Will fit great with an athletic sock. Looking forward to using them for trail hiking.

I read the reviews that these ran large, so I ordered a 7.5, rather than an 8. My toe was bumping up against the shoe. Returned them and ordered the 8. Perfect fit.
Jacquelyn –
Overall, both pairs were not comfortable. Heavier than I would have liked in this type of shoe.

These sneakers are not waterproof. Socks and feet got wet when out in rainy & wet conditions. They’re a nice sneaker and it will take longer for water to get in than with a regular running sneaker, but they’re definitely not waterproof.

These shoes are very comfortable. I bought these because I walk 5-10 miles per day and the soles of my expensive sneakers were wearing out in just a few months. These seem like they will last. I wish they were lighter weight.

I can wear this brand, this model, right out of the box. No need to slowly break them in. They are comfortable and because I have plantar fasciitis, they don’t make my feet hurt. Would buy again. These also come in a waterproof version, for those of us living in Pacific Northwest type wet conditions.

I was replacing another pair of similar Merrells bought June 2022. For the old pair, I had to go a full size up, but luckily I read several reviews that suggested to only go up a half size. That was correct. So i second the fact that it’s better to order 1/2 size up. Love the shoes, wonderful grip. Would but again.

The shoes were clunky and very rigid. The collar around the ankle was not the same on both sides – one side had more padding then the other and it was wider. I went up a half size to 8.5 and my toes were touching the front of the shoe. I did like the style and color.

Do you know what it is like to put your foot into a shoe and go…Ahhhhhh!!!
Well, I certainly know that feeling because it is exactly how I felt as soon as my feet slipped into these shoes! I had an older pair (not sure the style, but they look similar) of Merrells that Sister gave me that were too small for her, but slightly narrow for me. This time I purchased the wide, which is not that much wider, but perfectly wide enough that I can wear socks without feeling squished. As before…I expect to get many years of wear and enjoyment out of these shoes. 🙂

I had a tailor’s bunion and a sore spot at the ball of my big toe, plus wide, flat feet bad enough to require surgery (which I’m recovering from now). These were the only shoes I could wear and they got me through a fair amount of walking. They have a nice, large toe box and gave me the width I needed next to my little toe. They didn’t pinch my ankles when I laced them up tight and the tread isn’t slippery on rocks and gravel. My feet didn’t get wet in dewy grass but I never actually stepped in standing water. They’re a little clunky as an everyday shoe but not enough to keep me from wearing them. They definitely fit in as an outdoor shoe. The checker at Trader Joe’s liked them so much she held up the line to ask what kind they were and how she could get them. 😉

Liked the shoe, but too big.

Purchased these for a trip to Japan. One day the rain was a deluge. My feet were still dry after four hours out and about. I did decide to change to an insert with more arch support which was good. They were very comfy.
Satyavati –
Good fit on my low volume, narrow size 7.5. Actually truly waterproof too.

Got these for our next hiking vacation to Hawaii. I’ve put about 15 miles on them so far to break them in and I absolutely love them! No hot spots at all and really nice arch support. Highly recommend and great for wet conditions.

I took a chance and bought these boots online sight/try-on unseen, to hike Machu Picchu. Boy, was this the best purchase ever! Not only are they cute, but they are all-day hiking comfortable. The fit was perfect and they have become my favorite hiking boots.
Cristina –
I love these shoes for walking and hiking! Tread is effective and quite pronounced. I was even able to walk on ice and snow in the winter instead of my boots. I would buy them again.
Lia –
Very comfortable with little breaking in. Good grip including on slippery rocks.
Dogwalk’nWestPA –
They are a bit hard on the foot at first but seem to be softening up with breaking in. So far they are waterproof but I have not really tested them yet- My Moabs were not waterproof but fit better and felt better on the foot- and I like them but as soon as I walk in wet grass my feet are soaked so I have these to try now. If I know the grass will be wet, I wear rubber boots but that’s not so great in the summer. Here the grass is always covered with heavy dew in mornings, so I will check the Alverstone 2 with waterproof or not soon as the weather is too warm for rubber boots.

Just walked through the wet woods in Bastogne, Belgium on a band of brothers tour, walked through the Luxembourg American Cemetery in the rain and my feet are dry!

Always have loved Merrell outdoor shoes. I got these because they are waterproof. They are comfortable, lightweight, and durable.

cushioning around ankle was great

I love these tennis shoes for my daily walks. When brand new, the soul is perfect for hiking, walking on slippery surfaces. I have had them one year now and even though the soul has worn out a bit, there still is a lot of traction. I had to order Half size larger than my usual size. I can even wear these in the winter with wool socks in Minnesota without freezing my feet. I will definitely buy another pair to replace this one. Since I have to wear orthotics to raise the arch, the super feet brand or the form brand orthotics fit perfectly in the shoe, as long as you remove the inner soul that comes with the pair. The photos below are of my shoes, one year after using them about 10 miles a week.
